Adventures in Modern Art

 What:   The Philadelphia Museum of Art this summer presents Adventures in Modern Art: The Charles K. Williams II Collection, a major collection of American and European modernist works; includes approximately 100 paintings, sculptures, watercolors, and drawings from the early decades of the 20th century. Several famed artists featured, among them Joseph Stella, Oscar Bluemner, Charles Demuth, and Arthur Dove. On view in the Dorrance Galleries (July 12 - September 13, 2009).

DJ Stakic!

What:  Best known for his role as 1/5th of Philadelphia's most prolific and well respected DJ/Production crew, Illvibe Collective, Statik has made leaps beyond even his own expectations, making significant accomplishments while gaining the respect of his peers and mentors. As the main Philadelphia resident dj for Scion's monthly and quarterly functions, Statik has been able to showcase his talents alongside the biggest DJs in the business. Statik has toured frequently since 2001 as the stage-show DJ for International acts like Bahamadia, Mr. Lif, Grand Agent, Schoolz of Thought, Hezekiah, J-Live, and more. As a producer, Statik helped score the award winning film, Scene Not Heard. This step in Statik's career seemed to be a natural progression from all the work he's already been known for internationally as a radio personality, stage show DJ, writer, turntablist, and selector.

What: This two part exhibit highlights similar art themes across neighboring cultures. The first part features Korean screen paintings with notable Chinese narratives like General Guo Ziyi’s Banquet and the Hundred Children. These images are presented alongside Chinese ceramics of the Qing dynasty (1616–1912).
